Review: Connie Price And The Keystones - Tell Me Something

Connie Price And The Keystones - Tell Me SomethingTell Me Something is immediately funky in a bad-ass, throw-back kind of way; opening with the horn-busting International Hustler, which features the dextrous rhymes of Percee P and sets the tone nicely for this tidy collection of funked-up, souled-out, jukebox fodder. Connie Price And The Keystones are clearly proficient in the art of groove, producing music in a similar vein to Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, and have recruited a talented bunch of emcees, vocalists and singers (Wildchild, Blood of Abraham, Aloe Blacc) to embellish the funkstrumentals of Tell Me Something; which might be a little bit ‘funk by numbers’, but still hits the spot.
