Here’s our selection from the latest and hottest records kicking about at the moment. As always drop us some feedback if you like / dislike it, and you can grab the full mp3 here [128kbps, 15.9Mb] and stick it on your iPod… or whatever!
1. Arms - Construction
Kids Aflame - [Melodic]

Arms is the pseudonym for Brooklynite Todd Goldstein who reputedly generated so much online hype that he was offered a record deal from Manchester’s Melodic label via his Myspace page. His debut album “Kids Aflame” delivers lo-fi pop and americana with some aplomb, and this track “Construction” sums up quite neatly his love for “”sad/weird/insular genius types” like Neil Young, Stephin Merritt, and David Byrne”.

2. Bonnie Prince Billy - You Remind Me Of Something (The Glory Goes)
Lie Down in the Light - [Drag City]

Will Oldham has been making rootsy folk music for almost twenty years now, and returns here under his Bonnie Prince Billy moniker for what has been called his best record since 1999’s “I See a Darkness”. Lie Down in the Light is more quality accomplished songwriting with a late night / early morning feel from Oldham, and this track You Remind Me Of Something (The Glory Goes) offers typical husky-voiced narrative over guitar.

3. Madvillain - Boulder Holder
Madvillainy 2: The Madlib Remix - [Stones Throw]
Dope beats, check. Crazy skits, check. Super-expensive limited edition box-set, check. The only thing conspicuously absent from the second installment of metal-faced rapper MF Doom’s collaboration with sampledelic producer Madlib, is any fresh vocal material. Instead Madlib has taken on the duty of remixing a slew of Madvillain acapellas in typically warped style. Available now from Stones Throw.

4. Ten Kens - Bearfight!
Ten Kens - [FatCat]
Ok so we already published an interview with Ten Kens only last week, but we’re still hyped about the Toronto indie four-piece and had to revisit their blistering single Bearfight! which drops on the band’s self-titled debut album in September. It’s a heavy dose of indie-punk meets wild euphoria in the woods- now go watch the insanely trippy video.
Buy it: Out September 16 on FatCat.
5. Koushik - Lying in the Sun
Out my Window - [Stones Throw]

Koushik is a hidden gem on the Stone Throw roster. Over four years since signing to the indie-hiphop label he’s finally got together his first album, Out my Window, and this track Lying in the Sun is a laid-back slice of 60s-esque pop and sunny grooves, which reflects the album’s progressive chill-out mode perfectly.
