New Music: Renfro

Renfro - Mathematics, (album sleeve)

Listen:

“Capture”

“Broken Little Pieces”

UK-based musical combo Renfro mailed me a copy of their new debut album “Mathematics” and boy am I glad they did. Their bubbly pristine electronica is reminiscent of an ‘all-grown-up’ cLOUDDEAD- like Imogen Heap without the labia- making it a perfect soundtrack for blazing away those hot summer days which hopefully you’re all having just now.

The duo consists of vocalist Tim Branney and producer-composer Atom James Drape, and take their influences firmly from the leftfield of musicology, citing artists such as Thom Yorke, Burial, The Books and Igor Stravinsky as influences to their downbeat wallowings. Mathematics is released on June 16 through independent label Meltwater, and should stake Renfro’s place atop the lofty mountains of avant-garde electronic pop without a doubt.
