  • Surface Emp / Proto Post

“Left Right” by Surface Emp, taken from Proto / Post
From the underworld of Glasgow’s hip-hop scene comes this highly unofficial release by Surface Emp, rescued from the broken computer of the group’s main emcee Sum Won. You might recognise some of the instrumental work as that of Warp noodler Hudson Mohawke, and the album also [...]

Taking a moment out of suffering from a badass cold-flu hybrid to post these images from the portfolio of Polish illustrator and graphic designer Jan Feliks Kallwejt, who has LOADS of great work for view over at his website. Found via Fourooms.

PS: does anyone have a good home remedy for the cold?!

  • Behind the Monacle

    April 24, 2008 · Words: Martin S · 0 Comments

It wasn’t so long ago that I was “wow”ing over Monacle magazine’s website design and vital approach to mixed media publishing, so it was nice to find this piece by Dan Hill, who recently left his position as Director of Web and Broadcast there.
He goes in-depth into each aspect of Monacle’s innovative publishing strategy, from [...]

  • Music: Ghostly Swim

    April 22, 2008 · Words: Martin S · 0 Comments

Listen: “Blue Little” by 10:42, from the “Ghostly Swim” compilation.
Careful- there’s marketing genius at work here. TV network [adult swim] have combined forces with off-the-hook contemporary hip-hop label Ghostly International (think Matthew Dear, Dabrye…), to release a free compilation album of original instrumentals. This one by 10:32 is totally my taste in beats.
    Ghostly Swim (therein [...]

    April 15, 2008 · Words: Martin S · 1 Comment

I just ordered “Type Addicted: The new trend of A to Z typo-graphics” which is an amazing looking book published by Victor Cheung’s Victionary group, about the role of typography in contemporary design.

    Meet illustrator Kase.
There’s not much I can tell you about him, but he’s 28 years old and lives in Thailand; where he produces these very mellow, dreamy illustrations, which belong on a children’s novel somewhere. Thanks to Kase for sending these along, and check out his Myspace profile for more work.
