Music: Last Braintax LP

March 21, 2008 · Words: Martin S ·

“Real People” by Braintax, produced by Colin Emmanuel; Download MP3

BRAINTAX, the man behind cult UK hip-hop label Lowlife, is bowing out of the scene he helped flourish, but not before releasing one final record. The release, titled “My Last and Best Album”, will be the last in the label’s vast discography of British hip-hop produce, which has included artists like Skinnyman, Task Force and Rodney P.

Lowlife has been a struggling entity of late, in the face of diminishing sales, and even beef with artists from the label’s roster (Task Force spitter Chester P was amongst others in claiming he hadn’t been fully paid by Braintax, real name Joseph Christie). With only a handful of records released by the label in the last few years, “My Last and Best Album” will be the last tango for Lowlife, and a bittersweet moment for many fans of UK hip-hop.

I should also say the LP is produced by Emmanuel a.k.a C Swing, a la the Beta Band, Daniel DeBourg and others. Stupidly good producer.

Very sad to hear he’s winding up - is it true he’s moved to Australia? Best of luck to him, a legend of UK music.
