Mungo’s HiFi: Mary Jane Dub

November 7, 2007 · Words: Martin S ·

Talk about Glasgow and reggae music and you’ll probably mention Mungo’s Hifi. The group are hands-down the biggest thing in Scottish reggae and dancehall, and have smashed many a dancefloor since their 2001 debut ‘Wickedness’ dropped, with hot releases on Ninja Tune, Dubhead and their own label Scotch Bonnet. Nowadays Mungo’s HiFi are “blending 80’s digital reggae with modern production techniques” to cook up tracks like their latest dub ‘Maryjane’, which comes as an EP in eight different mixes (one instrumental), with 8 different emcees all voicing their fondness for the reggae artist’s smoked plant of choice. With guest vocalists featuring Top Cat, long-time collaborator Brother Culture, and Glasgow songstress Soom T, there’s no better way than this to stay skanking during the cold winter! The Maryjane Dub is available now in MP3, with a double 10″ vinyl on the way.
